The Magic That December Holds

It’s officially the last month of the year—December—my second favorite month to exist. I’m currently experiencing what’s supposed to be the start of a snowstorm. While I usually dislike the idea of being trapped indoors by snow, watching it fall outside my balcony window is truly magical. Even better when paired with a fresh, hot Earl Grey latte in a mug. I’ve just finished almost all my assignments for the semester, with only one final left to tackle. Life honestly feels great. I’m shocked to say that, especially considering how rough last winter was, but right now, it feels like I might be enjoying one of the most peaceful winters ever.

But back to my original point… DECEMBER. Let me tell you why this month is truly amazing. For starters, it begins just after Thanksgiving, when all the Christmas decorations are up and shining bright, making my apartment one of the coziest places on the planet. Here in Maine, it actually gets cold and snowy, which adds to the magic of a “real” Christmas. And there’s nothing quite like holding a warm mug of your favorite beverage multiple times a day to keep your hands toasty—it’s pure enjoyment.

Most importantly, I love December because it feels like a month that doesn’t really exist—not in the real world, anyway. It feels like it’s from a different planet, a place where time both ceases and flies by. A month packed with endless enjoyment, leading into fresh beginnings with the New Year—and quickly followed by my birthday. Maybe it’s a little coy to think this way, but December holds a truly special place in my heart.
