Why Am I More Tired When I Finally Rest?

Today I woke up and realized that my under-eyes are starting to turn purple and sink in a little. The weird part? I’ve been sleeping more than I have in the last three years, yet somehow I look more tired. I feel more tired, and my body hurts more.

I swear this happens every time. As soon as I stop moving so much and slow my life down, I become more sluggish and exhausted.

I don’t understand it. I seem to feel my best on very little sleep—or maybe I’ve just convinced myself that’s true. I’m not really sure anymore, but I’m tired of feeling lazy.

Oddly enough, I only ever dream when I’m actually well-rested. If I’m constantly working out, running, or keeping myself busy, it’s like my brain finally shuts off at night. But when I slow down? It’s dream after dream after dream.

God, I’ve already lived through a zombie apocalypse, been blackout drunk, and driven through strange places in the middle of the night—all while asleep. I don’t really enjoy dreaming. It feels like I never actually get any rest. Instead, I’m just awake in a different reality, and when I wake up it somehow feels like I barely slept at all. I want the kind of sleep where it’s just… nothing. No thoughts, no adventures, no alternate universe. Just lights out until morning.

Anyways, my marathon is this Sunday, and it’s supposed to rain the entire time. So let’s just say I’ll probably be completely soaked by the finish line. Maybe then I won’t even have to shower.

Just kidding—I will definitely be showering. Then hopefully I’ll end the day with a warm fire and lots and lots of s’mores.
